The Zeiss CP.2 (Compact Prime 2) lenses are the second generation of Zeiss’s compact prime lens range, and one of the most versatile and widely used prime sets on the market. Launched in 2010 in response to the growing demand for versatile cinema optics for the HDSLR camera market, they are based on the same ZE/ZF glass Zeiss uses in its still photography lenses, given a fully cinematic mechanical construction for the occasion. They deliver the unmistakable visual character of Zeiss glass: characteristic sharpness, precise contrast, natural and saturated colours, and a highly pronounced three-dimensionality, in a compact format with interchangeable mount that makes them compatible with virtually any camera on the market. Full Frame coverage across all focal lengths, including large-format sensors such as the RED Dragon 6K and 8K.
The set includes focal lengths in two aperture versions: the standard focal lengths at T2.1 and the three classic Super Speed lenses — 35, 50, and 85mm — at T1.5, which share the same optical design as the legendary Zeiss Super Speed lenses from the 1970s and 80s. Their 114mm front diameter is uniform across the full set, with 300° of focus rotation, focus and iris gears in identical positions across all focal lengths, and focus scales engraved on both sides of the barrel. The 14-blade iris guarantees smooth, circular bokeh at any aperture. Available in PL, EF, E, MFT and F mounts.
Perfect for: cinematographers and operators seeking the classic Zeiss optical character in a compact and versatile format — Full Frame coverage, interchangeable mount compatible with virtually any camera on the market, and a unique combination of standard and Super Speed T1.5 focal lengths —, for narrative, commercial, documentary, and any production where visual character and versatility are the top priorities.
