The ARRI WCU-4 (Wireless Compact Unit) is ARRI’s 3-axis wireless hand unit for remote control of focus, iris and zoom — part of ARRI’s ECS (Electronic Control System): the lightest and most compact hand unit in its class within the ARRI ecosystem, at only 780g including battery, designed to provide unrivalled comfort during long shooting days. It operates both wirelessly — via ARRI’s white radio system at 2.4 GHz with 8 channels and a range of up to 200m outdoors and 30m indoors — and wired via LCS connection with cables up to 80m in length. It is currently listed as a discontinued product by ARRI, having been superseded by more recent solutions within the ECS system.

Its transflective 3″ display shows clearly organised lens and camera information — including data from the optional UDM-1 ultrasonic distance measurer — with perfect readability in all ambient lighting conditions. The focus knob is backlit for work in darkness, with tool-free adjustable friction to personal preference. Features include a focus tracking function — continuous subject following via the ARRI UDM-1 ultrasonic distance measurer when used with the UMC-4 motor controller —, remote REC and tally function, programmable vibration alerts and position markers. The WCU-4’s personal settings — display arrangement, vibration patterns, user button — can be saved to an SD card and instantly loaded onto any WCU-4 anywhere in the world. Up to three hand units (WCU-4, SXU-1, ZMU-3A or WZE-3) can be connected in parallel in network mode.
